The event aimed to provide accessible and basic healthcare services to both locals and visitors, enhancing health awareness and promoting China-Nepal cooperation in community health development.

Thamel, known as a bustling hub of business and tourism, attracts numerous visitors from China, India, and around the world – including many Chinese and Indian nationals engaged in business activities in the area. This free health screening camp was specifically designed by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) and Wondfo to serve the international community in Thamel. Leveraging the medical equipment of Chhatrapati Free Clinic (Hospital) and the expertise of several Nepali doctors trained in China, the camp aimed to serve both local residents and foreign nationals, including many Chinese and international tourists who frequently visit the area.

With the monsoon season approaching, the purpose of the camp was to provide timely preventive care to both local and international communities. Special attention was given to elderly individuals and foreign nationals, helping them to identify and manage potential health concerns at an early stage.

The health camp provided free diagnostic services, including Complete Blood Count (CBC), Liver Function Test (LFT), Renal Function Test (RFT), Blood Sugar Test, and Thyroid Function Test (TFT). During the event, which ran from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, it was estimated that over 700 individuals received medical services.

Building on the success of the first phase, the second phase of the health camp is planned to be held in Bhaktapur, with the aim of serving an additional 700 individuals. Ultimately, the initiative is expected to benefit over 1,400 people from both local and international communities, further expanding the reach and impact of this health-focused collaboration.

Ms. Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of the CFRD Nepal Office, emphasized the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting community health development in Nepal. She noted that Thamel is a globally recognized tourist destination in Nepal, and Chhatrapati Free Clinic (Hospital) serves as a key healthcare facility in the area. Ms. Zou highlighted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chhatrapati Free Clinic (Hospital) played a vital role in response efforts and, in partnership with CFRD, launched Nepal’s first quarantine center. She expressed hope that this renewed collaboration would provide essential health services to international visitors and Chinese businesspeople in the region.

She also referenced the “Happy Community” project, launched last year by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal at the same hospital, which included the donation of a Chinese-made ambulance. Today, with the support of Chinese medical company Wondfo for this health camp, she reiterated that the Chinese people continue to care deeply about the health and well-being of Nepali communities.

Mr. Nabin Manandhar, Spokesperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Chairperson of Ward No. 17, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts behind the health camp. He acknowledged the valuable partnership between the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), Wondfo, Chhatrapati Free Clinic (Hospital), and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, noting that such initiatives play a vital role in enhancing public health services and fostering international goodwill within the city.

Mr. Kumar Dev Manandhar, Acting President of Chhatrapati Free Clinic (Hospital), expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts behind the health camp. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in improving public health and ensuring timely access to medical care for both local residents and foreign visitors. He noted that these kinds of partnerships not only strengthen healthcare delivery but also enhance the hospital’s role as a trusted community health resource in one of Kathmandu’s most vibrant and internationally connected areas.

Mr. Herbal An, a representative from Wondfo, emphasized that the company has been actively engaged in Nepal since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the growth and development of community hospitals in Nepal. He noted that Wondfo has donated the equipment, kits and funds in this particular initiative, underscoring their dedication to enhancing Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure and overall medical capabilities.

Mr. Herbal also expressed Wondfo’s vision is advancing biotechnology to benefit society, hope that through continued collaboration and provision of advanced medical equipment, the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in Nepal will significantly improve. He reaffirmed Wondfo’s commitment to fostering sustainable healthcare development, helping local communities better manage health challenges and respond effectively to future public health needs.

This project marks an important step for the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) in its ongoing efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly in areas with high tourist traffic and dense community populations. It also highlights the promotion of international cooperation aimed at advancing public welfare, demonstrating how cross-border partnerships can effectively address local healthcare needs while benefiting both residents and global visitors.
