Kathmandu, August 11: The Government of India will provide grant assistance for eight High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal, focusing on education, health and agriculture.
Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for the projects were signed on Tuesday between the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal’s Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the respective project implementing agencies of the Government of Nepal.
According to the Embassy of India, the eight projects have a combined estimated cost of Rs 803 million.
The projects will be implemented through local authorities and institutions of the Government of Nepal.
The projects include the digitization of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan, Sunsari, and the construction of an agricultural production collection and sales center in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality–9, Bhojpur.
Similarly, a Municipal Agricultural and Livestock Center will be constructed in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality–6 of Dhading, while a new building will be constructed for Belbari Multiple Campus in Belbari Municipality–3, Morang.
In Karnali Province, the agreement covers the construction of a 10-bed hospital in Dungeshwor Rural Municipality–5, Dailekh, and an Agriculture Promotion Centre in Sarkegad Rural Municipality–4, Humla.
A cold storage facility will also be constructed in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality–4, Syangja, while a 15-bed hospital building will be constructed in Barju Rural Municipality, Sunsari.
The Embassy of India said the latest agreements bring the total number of High Impact Community Development Projects undertaken by the Government of India in Nepal since 2003 to 605.
Of these, 512 projects have been completed, according to the embassy. The completed projects cover sectors including health, education, agriculture, drinking water, connectivity, sanitation and public utilities.
The remaining projects are at various stages of implementation.
The Indian Embassy said the HICDPs are part of the broader and multi-sectoral cooperation between Nepal and India as close neighbours.
According to the embassy, the projects are intended to strengthen infrastructure in Nepal’s priority sectors and support the Government of Nepal’s efforts toward economic growth and development.
